Pedals
Sprint events involve high torque and unusual forces on our pedals. The last thing we want to happen is to come unclipped. Modern clipless pedals are designed to come undone easily.
So what's the fix? Straps.
Common solutions for a number of modern pedal systems exist, the most common, cheap and effective is to use cable or zip ties and good quality leather toe straps, although some riders and teams prefer metal attachements to their pedals to hold their straps in place.
Some riders prefer the feel of double toe straps but this is not necessary, many sprint world champions are using single straps.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but current elite track teams commonly use Shimano SPD-SL (Dura-Ace or Ultegra because of a slightly different pedal shape which makes cable ties easier to locate than 105 or lower) or Look Keo pedals. Some MKS pedals are still in use, as well as increasingly rare Shimano SPD-R pedals. There are fans of Keywin pedals but many elite teams shy from them due to the difficulty of obtaining spare parts when on tour.
