How to ride a 1.5

The one point five is the futsal of track sprint cycling, it's ridden on a low gear, typically 82" (6.5m rollout) or less and the emphasis is on quick decision making, improvisation and creativity as well as bike control.

Two riders start on the rail of the track on the back straight, get a signal from a coach, and they race for one and a half laps.  The distance is too far for it to be a straight out drag race but like futsal, it's very intense and punishes mistakes.  The distance is short enough that riders can recover quickly and repeat the effort and rides should be encouraged to take tactical risks and play a lot during these drills - they should try to win, but not by doing the same thing every time.
